Accel Flex Binding Tips & Tricks
The number of sheets for cover size is based on 20 lb. bond paper. It is best to always measure whatever the document is in the measuring device in the cooling stand to have it guide which spine size to use. If using paper that is thicker, treated, glossy, or photo paper; it could affect the bind and require a bigger spine size. On the opposite side, if you use too few pages and they curl within the spine, they won’t get optimal heat. Measure the document so the pages/spine ratio is correct.
When closing the binding plates on the Accel Flex, if you push the metal wall too tightly it will lift the cover off the heating element. On the other side, if the wall isn’t holding the cover upright, the spine is not flat on the heating element and it won’t get enough heat causing poor binding. Don’t overstuff the machine, putting too many covers in at once, make sure the wall is comfortably holding the covers upright.
When the unit beeps indicating the binding cycle time is over, tamp hard down and from side to side on the covers / book block and then remove from the machine and put the covers into the cooling rack. Make sure the covers go in the cooling stand in an upright position with the glue edge facing down. DO NOT OPEN the covers until cooling cycle of one minute is up. If you open the covers, you will break that bond occurring during the cooling cycle.
